Sugar Land’s Newest Venue Starts Off Strong With Jerry Seinfeld

FROM CO-CREATING AND STARRING IN THE REVOLUTIONARY SITCOM SEINFELD to staying true to his stand-up roots for more than four decades, it comes as no surprise that Jerry Seinfeld is America’s funniest—and richest—comedian.
Last Saturday, Smart Financial Centre, Sugar Land’s new performing arts venue, held its inaugural act with stand-up comedy from the Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee host as he stopped by the Bayou City during his U.S. tour.
Attendees came dressed to impress, donning dresses and sharp suits. (I mean, it is Jerry Seinfeld.) As soon as he walked on stage, the audience went wild as he immediately jumped into his routine. He began the hour-long show by doing what he does best—finding humor in normal, everyday occurrences. From Swanson’s TV Dinners leading to obesity to Pop-Tarts never going stale because they were never fresh, Seinfeld, unsurprisingly, made the crowd go nuts.
He poked fun at this generation’s phone addiction, saying our bodies physically drain as our phone battery declines. He also noted the unusual time frame of 5-hour ENERGY, as if people know exactly how many hours worth of energy charging they need.
The second half of the show was dedicated to Jerry’s personal life. After being married for 13 years and having three kids, Seinfeld had plenty of personal anecdotes to share.
“Having a girlfriend is like playing paintball. Marriage is like fighting war in Afghanistan with full weapons,” he joked. “In a marriage, you gotta have answers. The female brain is alert at all times. While you are sleeping, she is researching. It’s like you are always in lightning round of a game show.”
While Seinfeld kicked off the Smart Financial Centre’s season on a high note, don’t miss other hilarious acts coming through Sugar Land this year, including Billy Crystal (Feb. 25) and Steve Martin & Martin Short (April 7).
