Sugar Land Performing Arts Center Named Smart Financial Centre
Sugar Land's $84 million performing arts center will be known as the Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land, the city's partner in the project announced Wednesday.
Houston-based Smart Financial Credit Union paid $6.7 million for the naming rights, according to a spokeswoman for ACE Theatrical Group, Sugar Land's partner in the project. The agreement is for five years, with a five-year option to extend it.
The Sugar Land city council's vote to assign naming rights to Houston-based Smart Financial Credit Union comes more than two months after the city broke ground on the venue, which is set to open in the fall of 2016.
"We are proud to help develop Sugar Land as a desirable entertainment destination and enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike through this new venue," Gary Tuma, the credit union's president and CEO, said in a statement.
The 6,400-seat indoor venue will be located off U.S. 59 near University Boulevard, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Houston.
